Batman Returns
Care-ability Healthcare were called in to help the children’s cardiac unit at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. The Freeman Hospital was the first Cardiac unit to use “Heartware” technology on a child as young as 3 year old.
This is a major break through in helping to reduce mortality rates in paediatric congenital heart disease. However this brings logistical problems of its own. With Children as small as this it becomes difficult to safely carry the VAD system. This is where we were asked to help.
Following consultation with the patient and family we listened to how the device works, the issues that were involved and what aspirations the professionals had. We also found out the young boy loved Batman. We then took his body measurements and set about creating the tailored suit fit for a super hero.
What happened next was amazing!
